Welcome to Business Destinations

Comments

As we began work on this issue, the appearance of the sun filled the Business Destinations team with the spirit of adventure. We harnessed our exploratory urges and set out across the globe, seeking out burgeoning business trends and inspiring settings to pass on to our readers.

In Brazil, we encountered excitement, and a little apprehension, as the country readies itself to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup. We scoured Rio de Janeiro for secret spots to meet and eat while the football festivities are in full swing. Further north, we stopped at the Panama Canal. Celebrating its 100th birthday in August, the canal was a true adventure in engineering and its commercial success has continued into the twenty-first century.

In North America, we searched for the origins of the great American road trip. In a blur of shiny convertibles and state-spanning maps, we discovered the artistic roots and vintage vibes of this bucket-list favourite. And for those that don’t make it onto the road, National Geographic magazine has been bringing adventure into homes for 250 years.

Scandinavian fashion designers are also global sweethearts this season. Their sharp shapes and sober palettes are now office favourites, and their export business is booming.

Finally, we thought it prudent to introduce you to a real adventurer. Robin Hanbury-Tenison has been described as the world’s greatest living explorer. He has dedicated his life to accessing the inaccessible and preserving the homelands and cultures of native peoples. We hope his thrilling story might inspire you to embark on your own summer adventure. Do let us know where you end up…
